P8 Minimum Jeepney Fare effective May 21, 2008

Yes the LTFRB has already approved the increase in the minimum jeepney fare by P1 making it P8 now effective Wednesday, May 21, 2008 plus P0.50 increase for the first four (4) kilometers in jeepney fare while for ordinary  bus, the minimum fare is now P9 plus an increase of P1 for non aircon buses and P1.50 for aircon buses. I did not hear TV Patrol mention though that this is only for NCR, Region 3 & 4 as what I read in the news online after.

Anyway, good thing I am no longer commuting everyday since I am a SAHM now. But those working and commuting everyday to work or elsewhere, especially those earning minimum wage or worse below minimum wage, would surely feel the effect on their daily budget. Before when I was still working, if I can walk to where I wanna go, I would walk. It is also a form of exercise but the bad thing is walking in the city is not that advisable due to air pollution. Passengers are not happy with this news while the jeepney drivers and operators alike are still quite not satisfied with the government as they still demand to Pres. Arroyo to junk and suspend the 12% EVAT (expanded value added tax) as well as stop the oil rice hike every now and then.

We just have to hope that things will work out well for everybody’s interest. For now, passengers just have to bear with the increase in the fare and plan out their itinerary to avoid unnecessary trips.
