P10 Increase in Taxi Fare Effective Today, July 25, 2008

There will be a P10 increase in taxi fare effective today, July 25 nationwide. The said 10-peso increase in taxi fare would be treated as a tip for it will not be part of the flag-down rate. In a report in TV Patrol Mindanao yesterday, taxi operators in Davao still do not have the yellow sticker that would authorize the taxi drivers to collect the P10 increase in taxi fares.

Monday last week those jeepneys who have gotten the new yellow fare matrix, has effected the increase in jeepney fares from P7.50 to P8 minimum fare for the first 4 kilometers which was said to have taken effect either last July 9 or 10. The government allowed the increases in transport fares following the continuing rise in oil prices overseas.

On the otherhand, the Cabinet have already cleared Metro Manila’s ordinary buses to charge additional P1 for the first 5 kilometers—up to P10 from P9—and an extra 20 centavos for each succeeding kilometer. While the air-conditioned buses are allowed to charge 20 percent additional, said Thompson Lantion, chairman of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
