Scared of the Fireworks and Stranded
18 Jan 2009
Our dear CT is afraid of the noise created by the fireworks here in Cebu. He is not used to the firecrackers and fireworks coz if you know in Davao City, there is a total firecracker ban in Davao City being implemented by the Mayor of Davao City, Mayor Rodrigo “Rudy” R. Duterte for many years now. So you can imagine that our Christmas and New Year celebration especially is different from other parts of the Philippines and in the whole world.
Here I could hear firecrackers ever now and then but they sound far from where we are staying. Last Friday in Ayala Center Cebu where we went for the fireworks display, CT got scared coz though we were far he could still hear the noise. Then last night we were at the parking area fronting the Northwing of SM Cebu where we watched the first Cebu Pyrofest Competition where 6 contingents from Lapu-Lapu, Bohol, Bulacan, Manila (they do the fireworks display at the Enchanted Kingdom), Oroquieta and Dumaguete competed. CT was a little scared and he was sleepy while I was carrying him. He would wake up once in a while especially when the noise was a little loud and he did not cry that much as I explained to him that they were far and would not hurt us. But he did not watch the wonderful fireworks lighting up the sky last night.
The people were really excited and grew quite impatient since the competition started late around 30 minutes past 8PM. The contingent from Dumaguete which was also the last was definitely not the least coz it was the most applauded and most appreciated by the people watching the fireworks competition. We still have no to time to crop and resize the photos though we were able to transfer them to this laptop.
We were tired as we got home late last night. There was no taxi outside SM and the line of people waiting was so long and there was hardly any taxi arriving there that we were forced to take a long walk in the street where so many people and ride a jeepney then we dropped at Manalili where there was no taxi still and we got STRANDED. Good thing we were fetched by hubby’s uncle, aunt and cousin. They got into traffic too just like us and we did not have dinner yet and it was past 10PM.
We were just able to eat bread we bought from Bread Talk in SM. It was quite expensive a piece but it was delicious and good enough zs our CT devoured at the bread. We also all got stuck in traffic at Fuente-Osmena Rotunda where there were a lot of people and tourists in the streets. The mood is festive here though the traffic at Fuente somehow drowns the excitement.
There are photos I wanna share but still have no energy to post them. I still have tasks to do online and I hope I will be able to finish them today as if I will still have the time and energy to blog later on after the LONG as in LONG walk ahead of us today. Most of the streets have been closed already since yesterday. Taxi is not that accessible and the meter reading will kill you before you get to your destination and as if the taxi will be able to cross from north to south and vice versa where the roads have been blocked already. And you could just imagine we have CT with us. I would just like to stay home but then what are we here for if not to experience and enjoy the Sinulog Grand Parade right?
