Millions of Filipinos and people all over the world are paying their tribute and last respect to the 11th President of the Philippines. Today August 5, 2009, declared a special non-working holiday, we say thank you to former President Corazon C. Aquino, the icon of democracy… we are watching Salamat President Cory: A People’s Farewell in ABS-CBN’s special live coverage of her funeral hosted by Korina Sanchez and Ted Failon.
Thousands of people line the streets where her funeral cortege will pass on its way to the Manila Memorial Park for her interment and where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, the late former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino. The events unfolding continue to touch the hearts of a lot of people like me especially who has witnessed EDSA 1 the People Power Revolution. She stood for and fought for our freedom. President Cory will be the best president that I will know. The respect and touching memories told by people who worked for her and are close to her and know her personally has touched me so much as well as a lot of people whose tears kept falling upon losing someone like her.
I just saw the replay of Kris Aquino as talks during the funeral mass this morning and the tears continue to flow for those who could relate and feel as a daughter losing her mother. I still have my mom with me and it makes me appreciate my mother more. President Cory has been a respected mother of our nation… salamat! We bid farewell as you move on to a far better and peaceful place once again reunited with Ninoy.
