Rio de Janeiro will host the 2016 Olympics defeating Madrid . The 2016 Olympics announcement has been made and Rio is the first South American city to host the Olympic Summer Games in 2016 which is the 31st Olympiad. It is the first time that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has brought the Olympics to South America.

Madrid (Spain) was in the running for the Olympic bid to host the 2016 Olympics Summer Games but they lost it to Rio de Janeiro in the final round of voting. It was known earlier on that Chicago, Tokyo Eliminated from 2016 Olympics Finalists. The 2012 Olympics summer games will be held in London.
