It has been a few days since we experienced one of the rotating brownouts implemented by Davao Light and Power Company. Yesterday morning we had one that lasted for 35 minutes. Hope they could schedule it during the day in our place which thought still inconvenient but is better than having it at night.

For the information of those affected by these rotating brownouts in Davao, here is the news released from Davao LightRotating brownout duration increased to one hour.

The duration of the rotating power outages that are implemented in the areas within the franchise of Davao Light have been lengthened from 30-minutes to one hour per area serviced by a feeder in a given substation, starting yesterday afternoon. Davao Light Corporate Communications Officer Ross Luga said that the increase in the duration of the outages is due to the much reduced generation capacity of the hydro electric plants in Lake Lanao in Lanao del Sur and Pulangi River in Bukidnon as advised by the National Grid Corporation of the Phils. (NGCP). This is the result of now very low water elevation of the lake and decreasing water inflow in Pulangi River. This condition at the major power sources has forced the NGCP to increase its load curtailment to Davao Light.

Yesterday starting at 8:00 AM, NGCP imposed a 78 megawatt (MW) curtailment on Davao Light’s franchise area. The 45 MW generated by the company’s standby power plant has been insufficient in the last few days to make up for the curtailed load.

Luga added that the exact time when the outage will begin cannot be determined because it will depend on the level of curtailment imposed by NGCP at any given time of the day and the variability of the load of Davao Light relative to time of the day. He reiterated Davao Light’s request to its consumers to be prudent in their use of energy.
