Tips for Getting Rid of Buffalo Grass

Buffalo grass is a blue-green type of grass that is used in many lawns. It is a popular choice for homeowners and landscapers because it grows fast and it grows in various climates and soils. However, buffalo grass can show up in unwanted spots. If this happens to you, here are some tips to help you get rid of it.
Dig It Out
To start getting rid of your buffalo grass, get a sharp shovel or spade to start digging it out of the areas where you do not want it to grow. If it is a larger area, use a sod cutter. You can then take that buffalo grass and move it to another area of your lawn if you desire. Otherwise, simply leave it sitting in the sun so it will die.
Use a Herbicide
A glyphosate-based herbicide is another way to start killing off your buffalo grass and it is one of the easiest ways if you do not want to dig it up. You can find this type of product at your local nursery or home improvement store. However, be careful with this product because it will kill all vegetation that it is sprayed on.
Cover the Grass
If you cover buffalo grass with a vinyl or plastic tarp, there will be enough heat that collects beneath it to kill the grass. It takes about two to three months in order to make this happen, though. This is an ideal way to kill large areas without spraying or digging.
Burn It
Finally, if there are small patches or sprigs of buffalo grass popping up in your yard, you can burn it with a blow torch. Burn it until it turns black and use the proper safety precautions if you choose this method.
