Super Chef Battle of Iron Chef America
19 Jun 2010
I got stuck into watching a late replay of the Iron Chef America Super Chef Battle last January 2010 between the team of chefs Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse against Bobby Flay and the White House Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford, a Filipina! I actually saw this in passing before and didn’t sit down to watch it as much as this time around when I got curious knowing she must be Filipina. To make a long story short, the team that won this is of course that of Flay and Comerford! She makes me proud being a Filipina which I know you’d understand. They were actually using some ingredients and particularly the secret ingredient which the First Lady Michelle Obama said is “anything from the White House garden.” They also used honey (from the White House beehive which is found beside the garden) in their sweet potato tart with honey from the White House. Comerford said she also used some Filipino influence in some of the dishes they cooked using ginger and lemon grass.
I actually got a little bored watching the World Cup match between USA and Slovenia. The team USA was not doing good at the beginning so I channged channel and found the Super Chef Battle being shown again. I got curious how the Filipina chef would do and hey they won! They scored more in the plating and originality that gave them a lead of 5 points. Their charity of choice gets $25,000. But I just do wonder though why the judges chosen were Jane Seymour and Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin. Where are the usual judges who I see before?
