August 30, 2010 is a Regular Holiday for National Heroes Day.

I saw the reminder posted at the bulletin board near the gate in the little boy’s school that there will be no classes on Monday, August 30. This holiday a few weeks ago was feared by many hoping for a long weekend as it was about to be almost canceled by President Benigno Aquino when they announced that they will be reviewing the declared holidays for the rest of the year. To the relief of most working people I know it will remain a regular, non working holiday.

Last weekend here in Davao City was a long weekend since Friday was declared a special, non working holiday in celebration of the Kadayawan Festival. Then there is this long weekend coming up again! We love the holiday economics simply because it gives us more time to spend with our families and loved ones. Work and business may be important, we know that but in the basic form of society which is the family, we value the time that is given to spend more quality time with our loved ones especially the children.
