It is a good thing to hear from a friend who I have not seen for a long time. Though it was somewhat sad to hear and know that the husband of her sister (who was also a good friend of ours and migrated to the US years ago) lost his job after he was considered as a disable by his company when he got sick with a rare disease. Good thing there is a personal social security disability insurance that somehow saved her sister’s family from their financial woes.
Just what I know from what I read before that in the US you must have been disabled before reaching full-retirement age – 65 to 67, and must meet the Social Security’s definition of disability before being able to claim it. They almost lost their own home good thing they got the insurance to get them through. It saved them though it isn’t easy for my friend’s sister to take up the responsibility of being the bread winner of the family now.
