Today February 2, 2012 in the Catholic church celebrates the Candelaria Mass where candles are blessed and so this is also known as Day of Candles or Candles Mass.
It falls forty days after Christmas.
Día de la Candelaria (Day of the Candles or Candle Mass) happens on February 2, and is a Mexican celebration that is fusion of the Catholic influences and native Mexican tradition.

I do remember this growing up as a time that my mom would have candles blessed during the mass and we would use them on special occasions and during prayer or rosary time at our home. I do remember too we would light them too especially during times when we pray for a special intention and important intercession when someone in the family is sick.
